FRP Ductwork for Corrosive Service
Plastimarmol FRP manufactures fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) ductwork for systems that handle corrosive fumes, acid vapors and moist air.
Galvanized or stainless steel duct can corrode within a few years in this kind of service, while FRP duct resists chemical attack and keeps its strength.
FRP duct is widely used in chemical plants, mining and metal refining, and water and wastewater treatment.
Key Benefits of FRP Ducting
Corrosion Resistance
Light Weight
Low Maintenance
Custom Fabrication
Applications
- Fume exhaust from process tanks and chemical areas
- Odor control systems in wastewater treatment plants
- Scrubber inlet and outlet duct and exhaust stacks
- Ventilation in electrowinning and refining buildings
- Laboratory and industrial exhaust
Manufacturing
We fabricate round and rectangular duct, elbows, tees, reducers, transitions and flanged connections. Round duct is produced by filament winding, which gives a consistent wall and high hoop strength. Rectangular duct, fittings and transitions are produced by contact molding (hand lay-up).
All duct is built with vinyl ester resins selected for the chemical service. Fire-retardant resin systems are available when the specification requires an ASTM E84 flame spread rating.
Standards
Filament-wound round duct is manufactured with the same process and laminate construction as our filament-wound pipe, in accordance with ASTM D2996. Contact-molded duct is fabricated in accordance with ASTM D3982. Resin selection follows chemical resistance data per ASTM C581. Wall thickness and stiffening are designed for the positive and negative pressure of the system.
Frequently Asked Questions About FRP Ducting
In fume exhaust and scrubber service, galvanized or stainless steel duct can corrode within a few years. FRP duct resists chemical attack, needs no painting or coating and is lighter to support and install.
